PQvar
Static VAR generator, PQvar series (B44066F*V) · EPCOS AG / TDK Electronics
PQvar is a static VAR generator: instead of switching fixed capacitor steps in and out, it uses a three-level inverter to generate exactly the reactive current the load needs at that instant, continuously and in either direction. That means it compensates inductive and capacitive loads alike, from zero to full output with no steps to land on, and it responds in under 15 ms, so it holds power factor through load swings that a contactor-switched bank simply cannot follow. It also balances the load between phases. The series is built as modules: a single module reaches 200 kvar and a cabinet up to 800 kvar, so capacity is added by adding modules rather than by replacing the unit.
Key Features
- 01Real-time response to reactive power demand: response time < 15 ms
- 02Compensates both inductive and capacitive reactive power, steplessly, target power factor adjustable from −1 to +1
- 03Real-time load balancing between phases and continuous current monitoring
- 04Three-level inverter topology; overall efficiency > 97 %
- 05Modular: single-module capacity up to 200 kvar, floor-mounted cabinet up to 480 kvar
- 06Rack, wall and floor mounting; wall units with a built-in 4.3 inch HMI touch display
- 07Modbus over RS485 and TCP/IP for interconnection and monitoring
- 08Comprehensive protection: overload, short-circuit, over-temperature, over/undervoltage, inverter bridge, overcompensation, DC link, fan fault
Applications
- SVG – Dynamic Reactive Power CompensationSVG (Static Var Generator) systems respond quickly and dynamically to both inductive and capacitive reactive power demand, providing fast, stepless compensation. Unlike conventional capacitor-step compensation systems, SVG systems work on power electronics, which allows reactive power to be controlled precisely under rapidly changing load conditions. They can be used in industrial facilities with welding machines, cranes, lifts, presses and other rapidly changing loads. Depending on the needs of the facility, the solution can be built from a single unit or from several SVGs working in parallel.
- Harmonic Filter SolutionsNonlinear loads such as frequency converters, rectifiers, UPS systems, power electronics equipment and arc furnaces can cause current and voltage harmonics on the network. High harmonic levels lead to overheating in transformers, cables and capacitors, to increased energy losses, to a risk of resonance and to unexpected failures in sensitive equipment. Harmonics are reduced with active or passive harmonic filter solutions selected according to the facility's load structure and harmonic spectrum. Passive harmonic filters are effective at reducing specific harmonic components, while active harmonic filters compensate harmonics in real time under variable load conditions, providing dynamic filtering. At EPKOM we determine the filter type and capacity that suits the facility from power quality measurements and harmonic analysis, and engineer our solutions taking IEEE 519 and the relevant IEC/EN standards into account. This reduces harmonic levels, protects equipment and allows the electrical system to run more safely and efficiently.
